Job summary
Amazon is seeking a curious, intuitive, high-judgment, and self-motivated communications professional to join our Amazon Operations Workplace team which is located within World Wide Communications. The mission of Worldwide Communications is that we continuously strengthen Amazon’s reputation and trust with customers by educating the world about Amazon’s products and services, and how we support employees, small businesses, partners, content creators, developers, the economy, the environment, and communities where we operate.

This individual will drive the field communications strategy for the West Region of the United States (CO, NE, OR, WA, MT, WY, AK, HI, NV, IL IA, WI, KS, MO, MN, ND, SD, NM, AZ, CA, ID, UT, AR, OK and TX) with a focus on developing activities that can be executed at the hyper-local level. This position builds hyper-local communications and engagement in top media markets and regions where Amazon has a significant presence, by developing the local storytelling agenda. This position will be responsible for regularly appearing as a spokesperson in local media and at local events, tell inspiring stories that are relevant for people in Amazon’s local communities.

This person can be based virtually in one of the states listed above.  

You will have a strong background in media relations and building, managing integrated communications or political campaigns. In this role you must be capable of managing team(s) supporting multiple senior business leaders, where the strategy and programs are not defined and can lead independently. You must be flexible, detail-oriented, and adapt to new challenges. You communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written materials. You excel at driving and meeting milestones and deadlines, implementing mechanisms to improve processes, and identifying key trends with actionable PR recommendations.

You can keep composure in fast-moving situations, embrace ambiguity and changing tides, be able to quickly get up to speed on complex issues, anticipate employee questions/reactions, and quickly prepare thorough messaging strategies.

Key job responsibilities
• Lead and develop innovative, proactive communications strategies, clear narratives and tactics that demonstrate at the hyper-local level that Amazon is a great place to work
• Deliver localized, strategic campaigns directly and in partnership with adjacent channels and organizations within World Wide Communications
• Lead the development and execution of external communication plans for new programs, policies, and partnerships
• Look around corners to spot emerging topics issues and develop communications to mitigate and manage
• Earn trust, provide counsel, and effectively communicate with a range of internal stakeholders
• Think and communicate clearly – formulate a clear point of view on complicated issues and create a concise and well-written narrative to express it
• Build stakeholder relationships across a range of businesses to establish a news agenda relevant to each business, and provide counsel for executive communications and reactive messaging
• Manage and develop a growing team of expert media and PR practitioners
• Willingness to take risk, impeccable judgment, and high standards
• Roll up sleeves and get work done, even when at times it’s outside the scope of the job


• Bachelor’s degree
• 10+ years of external communications experience
• 5+ years of people management experience


• External communications experience, preferably with national brands
• Experience with logistics, operations, or retail
• Political campaign experience
• Issues management experience
• Experience developing relevant content for a diverse, remote, and mobile workforce
• Experience developing creative, effective approaches to difficult communications challenges
• Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and able to form a cohesive and effective outcome
• Possess a strategic approach to problems solving
• Ability to exercise high judgment, particularly in narrow time-frames
• Willing to roll up one’s sleeves and get work done, even when at times it’s outside the scope of the job
• Keenly focused and able to pay painstaking attention to important details
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills are a must, with the ability to think and communicate clearly, formulate a clear point of view on complicated issues, and create a concise and well-written narrative
