Who are we looking for? 

HR&A is seeking a full-time Director of Business Development. This position is based in our New York City office.

This person will report to the Head of Growth and collaborate with senior leaders across the company to research, strategize, optimize, and win new business. They will serve as a critical resource for Partners and Executive Management, as they work to expand the firm’s practices and services. This person will also support the firm’s Communications efforts by developing the firm’s approach to promoting impact and marketing its unique capabilities.

The ideal person is eager to make a substantial impact on the current and future of a dynamic organization. This person is a passionate strategist and experienced implementer who knows how to establish business development best practices. They have previously served as a leader in a business strategy and/or development capacity and leveraged data along with tools to maximize performance. Finally, this person is excited to continue positioning the firm to address the complex challenges facing cities around the world.

What will you work on? 

Collaborate with senior leaders  

  1. Serve as strategic advisor to Partners, Executive Management and the Growth team as they evolve, develop, and accelerate the firm’s cutting-edge practice areas and offerings.
  1. Find, procure, or build internal resources that support business strategy and enable Partners to follow up with leads and establish new or build existing relationships — including conducting market research, building business intelligence, and expanding the use of the firm’s CRM, Salesforce.
  1. Support client engagement, product development, and marketing.

Manage Business Development Strategy & Operations 

  1. Assess and monitor firmwide market opportunities, competition, and product quality.
  1. Help develop and execute the firm’s short- and long-term strategy for growth.
  1. Be accountable to business targets including firm revenue and growth.
  1. Upgrade systems, develop templates and improve frameworks to guide the pursuit of existing and new business.
  1. Develop and recommend strategic partnerships with other firms, associations, organizations, including sponsorships and memberships.

Manage Business Analytics and Informing Management Decision-Making 

  1. Develop and maintain a deep understanding of HR&A’s business model and how the firm’s financials and leverage the firm’s experience and industry knowledge.
  1. Oversee business analytics and quarterly/annual reporting on KPIs to Partners and Management, in addition to periodic one-off analyses and projects.

ABOUT YOU |   

  • BA/BS degree in business management, administration, entrepreneurship, or a related concentration. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • 7 to 10+ years of relevant business development and strategy experience in the professional services/consulting/corporate sectors.
  • Experience and passion for working with leaders to set and execute organizational strategy.
  • Experience in government, A/E/C, or social impact is a plus.
  • Strong multitasking and project management skills and demonstrated capabilities to manage multiple deadlines and changing project criteria.
  • Strong collaborating skills, including some experience in leading a team, as well as working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Capacity to interpret data to support decision making. Working knowledge of Salesforce, AskWonder, preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated, and proactive.
  • You are committed to HR&A’s approach to ADEI and continuous improvement.

TRAVEL |  In this role you will travel 25% of the time visiting HR&A offices across the country to build a presence for the Growth team.

COMPENSATION | The base salary range for this position is $126,500 – $143,500. We offer competitive compensation packages, based on qualifications and experience. We are an employee-owned company, meaning you will have the opportunity to benefit from the firm’s growth over time through participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Each year, the firm will contribute funds to this long-term wealth-building account and may make contributions to other retirement accounts. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package that goes well beyond coverage of 90-95% of healthcare premiums, dental and vision coverage.
