Hill+Knowlton Strategies is seeking a confident and dynamic media specialist to join our Consumer Markets team (ideally based in NY or DC).  The ideal candidate will be an experienced agency veteran with a thorough understanding of the ever-changing media landscape and proven ability to provide strategic counsel, internally and externally, develop media strategies for CPG companies and brands and craft riveting stories that build company reputation and move brands forward to successfully align our client’s objectives with an appropriate and effective media strategy. The Media Relations Specialist is a creative storyteller who knows how to craft a media-worthy narrative and brings with them a robust and active rolodex of influential print/digital and broadcast media contacts with an emphasis on consumer and technology brand work.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Providing high-level strategic communications counsel to clients with an emphasis on global consumer and technology brands, and corporate narratives / executive thought leadership
  • Developing and leading media relations strategies and ensure they map to client objectives and integrate with other practice offerings as appropriate
  • Ensuring the highest quality standards and practices are brought to all aspects of client work
  • Building and maintaining client relationships at the highest level
  • Leveraging consumer media relationships with a current track record for success while developing and maintaining relationships with influential media to secure feature stories, executive profiles, op eds and brand profile stories in top news outlets
  • Tracking industry trends and activities in order to provide clients with new, fresh ideas
  • Leveraging existing contacts and forge new relationships with key media with a priority on influential business media and national consumer/lifestyle press
  • Acting as central resource, subject matter expert and internal counselor for the network on media best practices
  • Lending your creativity, storytelling abilities and tenacity to inspire and lead world-class client teams and memorable client media campaigns
  • Team management and upskilling to achieve quality standards for print, broadcast, online media placements, and to maintain and build a network of contacts


  • Undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related experience is preferred
  • 10 + years public relations experience
  • Strong media relations strategy development, established media contacts and the ability to develop and nurture new ones
  • Business development pro with a proven track record of success creating and leading pitch teams, RFP/RFI responses and delivering in the room to secure client wins
  • Proven ability to manage projects, client relationships and budgets
  • Collaborative approach to managing and mentoring a team
  • Excellent communications and organizational skills
  • Digital and social media savvy
