We’re looking for a versatile writer to join our Storytelling team. You’ll craft powerful messaging and create fresh, accessible, and engaging content for all kinds of clients and causes. Your creativity will be guided by clear strategic focus and inspired by science-based insights from communications research. You will:

  • Be responsible for producing high-quality content for multiple projects, often on tight deadlines, under the guidance of our creative director and copy editor
  • Craft fresh, evocative language that captivates your readers and delights our clients—whether you’re explaining a complex policy or sharing a human story
  • Apply insights from audience research, media analysis, and social science to create motivating messages and compelling content
  • Dive deeply into understanding our clients’ goals, audiences, and strategies, so that your writing helps to achieve meaningful outcomes
  • Present content to project teams and clients, explaining your creative choices in light of their audiences and objectives
  • Work with project teams to produce communications research and translate audience insights into powerful messaging and storytelling
  • Always maintain a positive and professional attitude with colleagues and clients
  • Support the firm’s mission, demonstrating a passion for the power of strategic communications to contribute to positive change
  • Learn and grow through challenging work, and by utilizing professional development and training opportunities

Right off the bat, you’ll create content that encourages people to participate in COVID testing and contact-tracing; learn to craft research-based messages that address hesitation about vaccinations; capture lessons from civic engagement leaders who helped drive record turnout in the 2020 elections; and write profiles of community leaders fighting COVID-19, racial injustice, and economic inequality.


Your writing will speak for itself. Successful candidates will present a diverse portfolio of work that demonstrates an ability to write for a wide variety of audiences and formats. It will show a knack for crafting content that rises above the everyday noise, with meaningful and memorable language. It will include examples of content that created measurable impact.

Your portfolio will include content for:

  • Policy communications (op-eds, speeches, white papers, case studies, etc.)
  • Storytelling (personal profiles, feature articles, interviews, newsletters, etc.)
  • Media relations (press releases, talking points, Q&A, etc.)
  • Digital platforms (websites, blogs, social media, etc.)

You’ll show in-depth understanding of policy making, politics, social media, and news media.

You’ll complete a writing test that demonstrates a journalistic writing style and a mastery of writing standards, including the use of style guides.


  • Two-five years of experience covering and/or working in Congress, think tanks, advocacy organizations, and/or communications agencies with clients like ours
  • Experience creating content for advocacy, non-profit, policy, and/or political organizations at community, state, and/or national levels
  • A track record of applying insights from research and analytics to craft messaging and storytelling that produces measurable results
  • A commitment to an equitable workplace and the effort it takes to maintain one
  • A passion for quality and acute attention to detail
  • The desire to grow with a dynamic firm, and work with others in a collaborative, fast-paced environment


  • Samples of breakthrough marketing content (taglines, ad copy, collateral, etc.)
  • Academic studies in linguistics, psychology, or other social sciences
  • Experience working directly with clients in an agency or consultancy

We are currently working remotely due to the pandemic and will consider remote applicants for this position.The salary range for this position is $56,000 - $70,000, depending on experience.
