The Hatcher Group seeks to hire a talented senior communications and marketing professional with relevant content experience to help support and manage projects from one or more of our core sectors of K-12 and higher education, the environment, public health, and equity and opportunity.  The ideal candidate is a meticulous project manager, effective communicator, and purpose-driven team player that is passionate about advancing clients’ missions.
Hatcher leads strategic marketing and communications and outreach campaigns for foundations, nonprofit organizations and coalitions, institutions of higher education, and state and federal agencies. We embrace work that expands opportunity and spurs actions that lead to real change.
The successful applicant will work directly with clients and lead collaborative teams that develop and implement a wide range of communications and marketing strategies, plans, and tools. The role is ideal for the seasoned communications professional with agency experience or content background in education, the environment, public health, and/or equity and opportunity. This position is ideal for someone who wants to be part of a talented, committed, and collaborative firm that is growing. This person will work closely with the leadership team to meet the needs of existing clients and help cultivate new opportunities. The preferred location is within reasonable commuting distance to any of our office locations for occasional in-person collaboration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage projects for clients in one or more of our core sectors
  • Supervise project-based teams to deliver high-quality products on time and on budget
  • Provide subject matter expertise in our core sectors and tactical leadership in communications and marketing
  • Support business development activities, including proposal development, thought leadership, and networking
  • Develop and implement strategic marketing and communications plans that advance clients’ goals through earned and paid media, social media, events, and other tactics
  • Write and edit content, including press releases, media advisories and other materials, identify media prospects, and pitch media outlets
  • Lead client-facing strategy sessions, workshops, and other presentations
  • Coordinate with creative, graphic design, and video teams to create high-caliber materials
  • Coordinate with digital team to develop and implement effective social and digital media strategies
  • Contribute positively to a team environment rooted in the firm’s core values, upholding our community guidelines
Qualifications and Skills:
  • 7+ years of public relations/communications experience, including managing staff and leading teams, preferably at an agency (nonprofit clients desired, but not required)
  • Excellent client-management skills and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Outstanding writing skills and expertise in different types of writing, including reports, press releases, blog posts, social media posts, and policy-focused documents; familiarity with AP Style conventions
  • Have demonstrated experience developing messaging and/or marketing and outreach campaigns
  • Experience in communications involving education, equity, environment, or social justice issues
  • Ability to translate complex policy and data to professional and mainstream audiences
  • Demonstrated track record of creating and implementing effective campaigns
  • Experience with media relations and ability to generate press coverage for clients
  • Ability to manage and mentor junior staff
  • Experience and interest in networking and pursuing new business
