Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Director, Medical Devices Media Relations & Issues Management. The location can be flexible, with working hours within the East Coast time zone.

Position Summary

The Director, Medical Devices Media Relations & Issues Management is a critical leadership role within the Medical Devices Global Communications and Public Affairs team and a key media relations messenger across Global Corporate Affairs. This person is responsible for the development and execution of media relations strategies to identify, mitigate and manage issues with the potential to impact the Medical Devices reputation. This role has the opportunity to advance and protect the Medical Devices reputation through proactive, strategic, multi-stakeholder media relations outreach.

The Director, Medical Devices Media Relations & Issues Management is a media savant, can work with a team to identify creative solutions, can build relations to garner trust in a matrixed organization, and keeps a positive attitude.

This role reports to the Senior Director, Media Relations, Public Affairs & Digital and collaborates closely with the regional and franchise communications leader, public affairs, digital media, and enterprise-wide media Relations teams to align critical initiatives across Global Corporate Affairs.

  • Partner successfully to assist in the identification, mitigation and management of issues with the potential to impact the Medical Devices reputation. Prepare reactive statements/media relations plans in response.
  • Act as primary spokesperson in managing issues and advancing the Medical Devices reputation.
  • Assist and lead media relations strategizing around business development/M&A opportunities.
  • Provide strategic counsel to Regional and Franchise Communications Leaders with respect to media relations, issues management and external reputation.
  • Contribute to evolving global communications planning, key messaging and other Medical Devices positioning/branding/media relations initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing Medical Devices executives to positively engage with media.
  • Develop partnerships across J&J teams drive relevant positioning and conversations among key external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with a range of appropriate functions (e.g., communications, public affairs, social media, legal, marketing, commercial, R&D, etc.) as a way to drive external communications to support business objectives and drive reputation.
  • Manage agency and/or consultants and assigned budget.

  • BA required; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in Communications
  • Experience managing high profile media issues and crisis situations

  • Experience working in a global function and a demonstrated understanding of global organizational challenges with the ability to navigate ambiguous situations
