The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson currently are recruiting for a Senior Director, Global Therapeutic Area Communication Leader, Cardiovascular, Metabolism & Retina, Janssen Research & Development, LLC.

The Senior Director, Global Therapeutic Area Communication Leader (TACL), CVM & Retina, strategizes and oversees internal and external communications for Janssen's CVM & Retina Therapeutic Area (TA). The TA includes two Disease Area Strongholds (Retina and Renal/Hepatic) and one Commercial Stronghold (Thrombosis). The Retina DAS represents Janssen's entry into gene therapy.



Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Leads overall TA internal and external communications strategy and strategic positioning, directing a team and external agency
  • Provides strong strategic, executive communications counsel to R&D and GCSO leaders
  • Serves as a business leader, sitting on multiple TA leadership teams
  • Drives external communications, including media outreach, data presentations, social media, content on owned digital properties and executive visibility
  • Drives internal communications, including within the TA, across Janssen and J&J to further visibility and reputation of CVM & Retina R&D
  • Serves as a leader within Communication & Public Affairs, sitting on R&D Communications Leadership team
  • Leads sensitive partnership, deal, TA/M&A, and other financial-related communications involving the CVM TA
  • Plans and develops highly engaging content for TA Town Halls and other forums, coaching senior leaders on delivery
  • Demonstrates financial stewardship, including securing budget from business partners and managing agency spend
  • Liaises with Johnson & Johnson Investor Relations, Corporate Communications, J&J Innovation, and business leaders in other sectors
  • Prepares Janssen's CVM & Retina Pharmaceutical Business Review presentation
  • Leads review of business partners' disclosure press releases
  • Serves as lead spokesperson for top-tier and other TA media/analyst inquiries
  • Builds and strengthens relationships with crucial external stakeholders, including top-tier global media, advocacy partners, and key influencers
  • Counsels TA Credo team on communication approaches/initiatives; liaises with senior TA leadership

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • An advanced degree in Communications or Journalism is preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience leading and managing communication in a company, NGO, government agency or public relations agency is required.
  • Proven experience in Pharma R&D communication or public affairs is required.
  • Current or past work experience in R&D, including Cardiovascular, Metabolism and Ophthalmology is preferred.
  • Strong business acumen and demonstrated ability to build deep, authentic, successful relationships with top executives and scientists and strong influence with senior internal and external stakeholders is required.
  • Ability to drive workforce engagement strategies to inspire and increase productivity is required.
  • Ability to manage networks in a matrixed environment is required.
  • Current or past experience with direct People Management skills is preferred.
  • Proven track record of successful, independent public relations/communications, corporate communication, science communication, product communication, public affairs, and/or media relations achievements is required.
  • Global mindset and successful track record of working in a global function, with direct experience of leading on international projects, issues and teams, and of competent internal and external stakeholder interactions on an international basis is required.
  • Strong business acumen, confident yet agile personality, the ability to move fast and the ability to provide strong counsel in real time is required.
  • Working knowledge of the financial disclosure process is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of R&D processes and the global landscape and key issues for biopharmaceutical science and innovation is required.
  • Broad understanding of competitive and industry priorities that drive business and social value is required.
  • Strong experience in crisis/issues management and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, global matrix environment is required.
  • Deep understanding of traditional media, digital and social platforms and strong experience dealing with national and local lay, professional/trade and social media is required.
  • Experience in managing budgets and resource allocation across large critical projects is required.
