Communications Manager

Overview: The Communications Manager (CM) is tasked with identifying, developing, and maintaining an effective communications strategy to reach both internal and external WSFSSH stakeholders. This is a growth-oriented role, as WSFSSH continues to build up our communications infrastructure, and one that is instrumental to helping nurture and maintain a strong organization culture of clear, proactive, and inclusive communication.  The position reports to WSFSSH’s Chief Strategy Officer.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
Overall Communications
  • Research and recommend strategies to best serve WSFSSH’s communication goals
  • Test new approaches and use analytic data to evaluate communications effectiveness; generate regular reports re:  successes & failures to inform future communications strategy
  • Write, edit, and produce a variety of organizational media such as newsletters, posters, presentations, video content, blogposts, etc. in furtherance of WSFSSH’s internal and external communication needs. This may include creating materials wholly in-house as well as in collaboration with 3rd party consultants (graphic design, media strategists, etc).*
  • Coordinate WSFSSH’s digital communications strategy – including but not limited to Internet/Website, Intranet, digital content monitors, social media, smartphone based applications, email, and text
Internal Communications
  • Collaborate with a variety of WSFSSH departments to provide communications support for their agency-wide initiatives (examples include but are not limited to Training, HR, DEI, etc)
  • Manage WSFSSH’s communications calendar
  • Create survey instruments to solicit staff and resident feedback; collect, and analyze responses
External Communications 
  • Prepare and update succinct, visually appealing, and content-rich materials to articulate WSFSSH’s mission and outcomes to a variety of external stakeholders such as funders, individual and organizational supporters, and prospective staff and residents
  • Draft testimony(ies) to advance WSFSSH’s individual and collective advocacy-related efforts
  • Prepare talking points and other materials to facilitate WSFSSH’s engagement with the press
Required Skills and Abilities: 
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and layout/design skills
  • Confident oral communication and outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Comfort working with a wide and diverse range of stakeholders
  • Clear interest in housing and homelessness, aging, urban planning and policy, or related fields
  • Experience in strategic and/or digital communications (including analytics) is a plus
  • Experience with public and media relations is a plus
