Director of Employee Experience Communications

As the Director of Employee Experience Communications, you will serve as the team lead for Internal Communications aimed at ensuring internal awareness of business priorities, objectives, and values – while amplifying what makes Staples an employer of choice and great place to work. in this role, you will be responsible for timely and effective internal communication of major corporate announcements and executive personnel changes. As the leader of a team of Internal Communications and HR Communications professionals, you will ensure proactive strategic partnership and collaboration across functions and teams to ensure consistent message alignment and communications best practices.

In addition, you will lead establishment of an optimal mix of employee communications channels – and plot an achievable roadmap for the company to create and maintain content that current and prospective associates will care about and use.  You will set and manage an editorial content calendar for the entire company to ensure our messaging and communications aimed at current and prospective associates are tightly coordinated and implemented.  You will also lead in the preparation and dissemination of corporate communications best practices and guidelines while assisting in the preparation of corporate spokespeople and providing communications training to key spokespeople and executives for the purpose of Recruitment Marketing.

  • Direct and manage a team of Internal Communications and HR Communications professionals, providing directional guidance and coaching and ensuring their ongoing professional development
  • Maintain current knowledge of Employee Communications trends and best practices.
  • Promote and champion inclusion and diversity to support employee experience outcomes.
  • Establish and reinforce Staples’ EVP / Employer brand messaging storyline, in partnership with HR and in alignment with Brand messaging. Help to unify voice of organization and ensure message alignment.
  • Develop and maintain a robust editorial calendar for companywide internal communications, aimed at driving awareness of Staples’ business priorities, facilitating employee engagement and alignment -- and positioning Staples as an employer of choice and great place to work.
  • Develop multi-channel internal communications strategy for key priority initiatives and advise on optimal mix (all-hands forums/broadcasts, email, intranet, videos, etc.) to achieve desired business objectives
  • Ensure timely execution of Recruitment Marketing strategy with relevant content aimed at building Staples’ brand and reputation as an employer of choice and ensuring a robust pool of qualified talent for priority open roles, in partnership with HR Talent Acquisition.
  • Ensure effective partnership with HR on various strategic initiatives and associated communications priorities, coordinating messaging and ensuring efficient collaboration with various functions within HR (i.e. Talent Acquisition, HR Analytics, Talent Management, etc.)
What’s Needed - Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 to 15 years related work experience
What’s Needed - Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree (Bachelor’s of Master’s) in Communications, English, Journalism or other related field.
  • Strategic and creative thinking
  • Collaboration with all levels of the company, cross-functional teams, diverse work styles and personalities
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with flawless attention to detail
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects/tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Event orchestration and management
  • Ability to think conceptually of strategic messaging approaches / story angles – editor-in-chief mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate vertically and horizontally throughout the organization

  • Ability to maintain confidential information regarding business activities such as organizational changes, mergers and acquisitions and financial transactions
  • Ability to effectively balance associate information needs with Corporate leadership communication priorities, with the aim of ensuring the effectiveness of the latter at aligning and engaging associates
