We are currently seeking a Social Media Manager to join our growing team. This is an opportunity to oversee development and execution of strategic media and communications plans on behalf of clients across the agency. The ideal candidate will have a track record in delivering earned media results, managing issues and building trusted relationships with the media and clients. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Partnership

  • Shows mastery of all media practices, regularly communicating with all levels of media outlets, including top-tier reporters
  • Exhibits ability to effectively manage multiple client relationships and provide a high level of service to clients; builds relationships with external groups and stakeholders (e.g., advocacy groups, vendors, etc.)
  • Leads development and manages implementation of media strategy and communications programs, ensuring best practices and quality of deliverables
  • Understands client goals and strategy, and is a trusted media resource for client; attends onsite client meetings and/or media events as needed
  • Shows creativity in participating in the development of solutions to client issues
  • Is flexible and efficient at multi-tasking and successfully assesses priorities with minimal input from supervisor
  • Proactively tracks on overall project timing to meet client expectations and ensure deadlines are met
  • Leads media training for clients and third-party spokespeople

Business Development & Operations

  • Understands agency operations, policies, and procedures; communicates agency services and capabilities and speaks to examples proactively with current/potential clients
  • Provides strategic insight into new business program development; takes a leadership role in new business proposal development and presentations
  • Comes prepared to internal and external meetings and takes lead in driving discussions, thinks broadly across account activities to ensure the “big picture” is considered
  • Understands costs associated with core media activities (e.g., SMT, RMT) and provides thoughtful recommendations to account team as to value

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Fosters strong relationships by building trust and acting as a valuable resource; demonstrates teamwork across the account team
  • Regularly coordinates with account team on all matters; provides insights into account strategy with comfort, demonstrating full knowledge of assigned accounts’ media environment
  • Instills importance of work quality and accountability in junior staff
  • Demonstrates flexibility in working across teams, able to adapt to project needs, different team working styles, etc.
  • Provides guidance and education to team members and junior staff
  • Actively supports company values and an inclusive culture
  • Demonstrates a sense of ownership and accountability for all projects

  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills both internally and externally, demonstrating the highest standards of performance in all communications
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail with little to no oversight required from supervisor
  • Is solution-oriented, resolves questions and problems, and seeks counsel when appropriate
  • Comes prepared to internal and external meetings and takes lead on discussing areas of responsibility
  • Shows poise and professionalism when interacting with all parties, responding appropriately to account teams and speaking confidently with clients
  • Speaks up in meetings to ask questions, share ideas or voice concerns, including thoughtful approaches to identified problems

 

DESIRED EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Marketing or a related field
  • 5-8 years’ communications and media relations experience; US/global health issues or health product communications experience preferred; knowledge of the pharmaceutical regulatory process and how it impacts communication with the media preferred
  • Experience managing teams
  • Handles conflict diplomatically
  • Delivers and accepts feedback well
  • Strong working knowledge of Cision, Quid and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships/partnerships (internally and externally)
  • Confident and compelling style in communicating with clients, teams and external stakeholders
  • Positive, professional and flexible attitude that lends itself to quality client service
