As the technical assistance provider for the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) YouthBuild program, YouthBuild USA provides organizations awarded a DOL YouthBuild grant comprehensive support to successfully implement the YouthBuild model. YouthBuild USA is seeking a strategic, creative, and results-oriented Senior Manager of Communications who will join the team dedicated to this work. This individual will develop and oversee the copyediting, marketing, and branding strategy for DOL YouthBuild deliverables.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications and working closely with the Senior Director of DOL YouthBuild Program Impact, this candidate will identify and develop innovative ways to create and disseminate print and digital content to grantees, stakeholders, and external audiences. The Senior Manager of Communications will ensure that all resources for grantees and external audiences are branded and copyedited to maintain clarity, consistency, and quality.

This individual will require a strong knowledge of digital marketing principles, analytics, design proficiencies, and innovative best practices. The Senior Manager of Communications must be a dynamic marketer with a strong passion for creating impactful, targeted content.


Content Development + Delivery
  • Create an integrated marketing strategy to engage DOL grantees and external stakeholders.
  • Explore online campaigns, such as videos and podcasts, and enhance offline materials to ensure content is easily digestible and engaging.
  • Develop a robust, multi-channel social media strategy for amplifying DOL YouthBuild work and highlighting YouthBuild’s core relationship with the U.S. Department of Labor.
  • Create infographics and other visual modes of conveying critical information in an easily digestible way.
  • Recommend templates and resources for the DOL YouthBuild Impact team to leverage in support of their work while ensuring all materials follow best marketing practices.
  • Collaborate with the DOL YouthBuild Impact team to ensure all grantee-specific and publicly disseminated deliverables and products are developed by subject matter experts and the Senior Manager of Communications.
  • Partner with the Virtual Engagement and Electronic Resources and Technical Assistance (TA) Evaluation staff to strengthen tracking and metrics to better understand how DOL grantees and external audiences prefer to receive information.
  • Leverage YouthBuild USA’s new customer relationship management (CRM) and email software (Pardot) to refine an understanding of the DOL YouthBuild audience.

Quality Assurance
  • Contribute to standard operating procedures by incorporating a review process that ensures adequate copyediting lead time to uphold editorial quality.
  • Manage a multi-layered review and editing process for DOL deliverables.
  • Proofread all materials to ensure they are engaging, free from error, post-ready, and adhere to the DOL Employment and Training Administration (ETA) Style Guide and DOL YouthBuild Style Guide.

Requirements and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5-8 years relevant experience.
  • Creative thinker with excellent writing skills, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for introducing new ideas.
  • Strong communication and project management skills across multiple stakeholders; highly organized, system-minded, and process-oriented.
  • Savvy with digital marketing practices.
  • Proficiency in Adobe programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Experience in photography and video production is a plus.
  • Previous experience with Salesforce or other CRM database preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Must have a passion for our mission and a good sense of humor.
