ASHP is hiring! Do you have a passion for communications? A way with words? Join an award-winning association with a great mission and collaborative culture!  Use your writing, editing, and project management skills to create, manage, and prioritize impactful and engaging communications across a range of communications channels and platforms for our members.  This position is based in our Bethesda, MD office.  Our office is currently closed but when our office reopens, you will work in a hybrid work environment.

What You'll Be Doing at ASHP:

  • Works with the editorial, communications, and marketing staff to develop and manage a global editorial calendar to govern ASHP's multi-channel member communications strategy.
  • Manages publication of ASHP’s member communications, including regular production of daily, weekly, and monthly e-newsletters and the daily digital news production for ASHP’s meetings and events.
  • Supports the Executive Office, Office of Government Relations, and other stakeholders to produce and disseminate priority updates and breaking news to members and other key constituents.
  • Writes original news articles and timely informational pieces as needed to support a robust calendar of high-quality, proprietary content for member engagement.
  • Collaborates with communications and marketing staff to develop multi-channel communications plans and produce a range of impactful content, including all-member announcement messages, special edition e-newsletters, social media copy, infographic copy, video scripts, podcast scripts, and other communications, as needed. 
  • Provides editorial guidance and copyedits for ASHP’s section e-newsletters.
  • Supports executive communications, such as writing speeches, as needed.
  • Works in collaboration with the marketing and member relations teams to align content strategy with member engagement, recruitment, and renewal efforts.
  • Collaborates with marketing staff to monitor and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for core member communications activities and provide insights and recommended modifications to enhance impact.

What You Bring To ASHP:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, New Media, or related field required.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience writing and editing impactful content to inform and engage stakeholders.
  • Prior experience as a journalist and/or working in a PR agency is preferable.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
  • Outstanding writer and editor with in-depth knowledge of AP style.
  • Creative thinker with experience in recognizing relevant breaking news for organizations and effectively distilling complex and timely information into highly consumable, engaging content.
  • Proven ability to create and curate content that aligns with organizational priorities and successfully adapt it by audience and channel to maximize relevance and impact.
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to multitask and effectively prioritize overlapping assignments and multiple deadlines.
  • Self-starter and accustomed to a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
  • Highly organized with keen attention to detail.
  • Highly collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills and excellent customer service orientation.
  • Prior experience in print and digital publishing.
  • Proficiency with marketing automation/email marketing platforms (HigherLogic, MagnetMail, HubSpot, or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage vendors and budgets, as needed, and support cross-functional stakeholder groups.
