Public Relations Director - Reputation and Risk Management

As the principal communications team for Expedia Group, we are responsible for the company’s reputation, narrative, and corporate positioning. This role serves as the lead for crisis communication and issues management at Expedia Group and develops strategies to anticipate, prepare, and mitigate risk. The role requires a passion for working across global teams and a willingness to dig deep and understand complex problems. This position is for someone who excels in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment, works well with executive-level leaders, and is accomplished in handling reputational risks.

What you'll do:
  • Maintain existing processes and establish new procedures to help the company identify potential reputation risks
  • Establish relationships across the company to develop a deep understanding of potential threats to the company and recognize emerging trends
  • Research and flag critical issues as they evolve; write, review, and approve statements, press releases, talking points, media responses, executive communication, and other material regularly
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the media and other external constituents when appropriate
  • Use data-driven insights to make recommendations when appropriate 
  • Counsel brand teams and other business units on reputation management issues, helping to translate nuanced problems into straightforward, understandable content
  • Identify potential issues related to current events, social media trends, and business operations and proactively prepare for them
  • Lead a direct report focusing on ensuring the individual is placed in roles and assignments that contribute to their personal and career development
  • Resolve and identify issues that may impair the team’s ability to meet strategic goals

  • Strong record building communication strategies focused on protecting and building our reputation.
  • Excellence in counseling executive management and leading communication strategies in a global context
  • Persuade others by supporting ideas with logical arguments/data, recognizing what information to share and when to share it
  • Build support to resolve issues and achieve the most favorable outcome for the company
  • Familiarity with addressing social issues in today’s evolving environment and an awareness of cultural, economic, and political differences
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity space, including experience with handling privacy and security topics and issues
  • Experience in a multi-brand or multi-business unit setting working across various divisions and management teams
  • Respected people manager with a strong bias toward team orientation who is accustomed to providing counsel to distributed team members and encourages growth
