Position: Associate
Location: Remote, Headquartered in Washington, D.C.

Potomac Waves Media is a women- and minority-owned diversity media firm that creates radio, television and print advertisements and digital media solely focused on reaching African American, Hispanic, Asian American Pacific Islander and Indigenous audiences. Since launching in 2008, Potomac Waves Media has been involved in creating ethnic media for federal, state and local campaigns, national political campaign committees and national issue advocacy projects. 

The Associate will work with our firm’s partners and staff to support the production of ethnic media print, digital, radio and TV/Video ads for political campaigns and committees. The Associate will be given an immediate opportunity to contribute substantively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Major Responsibilities
  • Serving as a point of contact for clients and their campaigns
  • Scheduling and coordinating production of advertising and post-production
  • Coordinating field production with clients and production crew
  • Working directly with editors in the production of print, digital, radio and TV ads
  • Working with media buyers to seek ethnic media cost estimates and to track relevant ad spending
  • Improving the firm’s processes and procedures to enhance workflow
  • Researching source material, including photo, footage, news sources, and music archives
  • Preparing materials for new client development including memos, interactive presentations, and demo reels
  • Conducting research and preparing background memos on relevant campaigns and political issues as needed
  • Collecting vendor invoices, overseeing translation services and tracking production spending
  • Assist with drafting pitches and proposals
  • Scheduling meetings/calls with current and prospective clients
While not an administrative position, the Associate will be expected to assist with limited administrative tasks commensurate with being a small firm.

Qualifications & Experience
Qualified applicants will have at least a Bachelor’s degree, as well as experience with media production and process as well as crafting communications strategies.  Experience on political campaigns or consulting is a plus.
The ideal candidate will also possess the following:
  • Passion for reaching communities of color and working to find creative ways to make sure diverse voices are heard though paid media
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Attention to detail and adaptability
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work under a deadline
  • Demonstrated interest in political and policy work
  • Strong work ethic & willingness to work long and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends
  • The ability to prioritize & execute multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • An eagerness to learn
  • Track record of work performed with the highest standards of quality and excellence
  • Superior proficiency in standard office technologies & software, such as Excel, Powerpoint, Google docs, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Graphic design experience using software like Adobe Illustrator, PhotoShop and Canva or a desire to learn a program
  • Written and spoken fluency in Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), Tagalog, Vietnamese or Korean a plus
