The Communications Division leads the development and execution of integrated communications and marketing strategies to further the mission of the National Geographic Society and advance its position as one of the world's most trusted non-profit organizations and global brands. Driven by the Society's vision to be more globally known for its impactful Explorer-led mission programs, the Division's creative and strategic minds develop strategic communications, marketing campaigns, creative, content, and media to promote the Society's strategic plan and key priorities. The Division comprises six departments: Engagement and Marketing Strategy, Brand, Creative, Strategic Communications, Executive Communications, and Content and Editorial.

The Content and Editorial Strategy team amplifies the mission and work of the Society across all owned and influenced National Geographic platforms through a centralized and controlled pipeline of narrative stories, editorial strategies, and impactful messaging. The team is responsible for managing collaboration across all Disney business lines of business through our joint venture, National Geographic Partners.

The Managing Producer, Brand Multimedia is a new position, focused on building and leading the team responsible for creating video, photo, and other media projects designed to elevate the brand of National Geographic Society and our emphasis on Explorer-led programs. This leader will develop inspiring, dynamic, and visually compelling multimedia in support of our strategic plan. Core audiences for these multimedia projects include donors, partners, Explorers, Educators, Board of Directors, and staff. This position will collaborate closely with Director, Content Strategy and Director, Digital and Social Content on the Content and Editorial Strategy team to ensure projects align to editorial and distribution strategies. Additionally, they will work closely with the Impact Media Lab and other media production teams across the organization. This position reports to the Vice President, Content & Editorial Strategy.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Creative Development & Direction: Develop stories and formats for multi-media projects based on defined objectives. Define the look, style and voice of all Society brand productions. Ensure that all creative is optimized for meeting the objectives of each individual project. Ensure that all films, videos, and other media are of the highest production quality, speak to their intended audience, and achieve maximum success on their intended distribution platform. Design each project intentionally for each platform. (30%)
  • Creative Supervision: Review and approve treatments, scripts, and video cuts. Supervise team and external vendors to ensure efficiency, quality, and positive client relations. Manage relationships with all internal partners. Create and develop multimedia (audio/video) content for Explorer profiles, project announcement videos, external promotional social videos, advancement/fundraising projects, recruiting videos, internal and external training, events, education, and other enterprise-wide projects. (30%)
  • Project Management: Work with Production Manager to create schedule, budget, and to hire and managing external vendors. Oversee team budget and coordination of all production logistics. Ensure all projects deliver on time and on budget, and that all deliverables, including original footage and legal binders, are properly archived. (20%)
  • Team Leadership: Supervise a team of staff Producers, Associate Producers, and a Production Manager; guide the team through the production process. Ensure that direct reports are producing according to NGS processes, policies and standards. Invest time in mentoring staff to ensure their professional growth. (20%)


What You’ll Bring


Bachelor's Degree preferred


Minimum Years of Experience   

10+ years experience in multimedia production and development and 3+ years of team management


Necessary Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong ability to direct the production workflow from pre-production through final delivery and archiving.
  • Proven success in leading creative teams.
  • Deep knowledge and experience with production-related technology including a wide variety of camera equipment, studio lighting, video editing software, and optimal video codecs and formats for all potential distribution platforms.
  • Ability to direct both field crews and editing teams.
  • Ability to prioritize workflows with a strong attention to detail.
