ABOUT FAMILY VALUES @ WORK

Family Values @ Work, a national network of grassroots state organizations, and its partner, the Labor Project, have supported the movement to win paid sick and safe days, paid family and medical leave, affordable high-quality child care, and other caregiving policies across the country, with many more wins on the horizon. These local and state advances are bringing new access to care supports to more than 55 million people and building national momentum for policies that value families at work. We fight for policies that are inclusive of and affordable for all, and which address the roots—not just the symptoms—of injustice.

FV@W staff raise national funds to support the local and state work of our partners in more than two dozen states and provide those partners with technical assistance in strategy, communications, fundraising, and peer learning. We know that long-term investments of resources and partnerships are what build movements. We are aligned around shared principles that contribute to a strong and integrated movement for economic, racial, and gender justice. For 18 years, we have built the capacity, power, and relationships to advance and enforce policies, change culture, and win campaigns on new issues that emerge from the communities that ground our network.

OUR VISION

We are building the world we need and deserve, where economic survival and the ability to care are in harmony. It is a world where we celebrate interdependence and value the labor of care both within and outside the home; we all have access to caregiving support from birth until old age; we all have jobs with dignity and equity; and we all have time for ourselves and our families—to rest, heal, care for each other, pursue life outside of work, and thrive.

OUR VALUES

  • Reverse the devaluation of caregiving rooted in systemic racist practices
  • Value a broad range of caregiving needs of all families
  • Prioritize the leadership of those most impacted by the lack of economic and social justice
  • Recognize all family definitions and structures
  • Ensure local and state grassroots organizations drive national policy
  • Uphold unions and collective bargaining as essential to our democracy
  • Ground our work intersectionality to build long-term power
  • Build power and solidarity across economic justice issues
