POSITION TITLE: Communications Director
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Executive Director
WORK CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Exempt
SALARY:   $80,000 - 90,000
LOCATION: Virtual, with preference for applicants in ET time zones

The Communications Manager creates and executes a strategic, influential and dynamic communications program, while placing a heavy emphasis on nationally earned media to consistently articulate Community Justice Action Fund’s mission to end violence in Black and Brown communities. This role is responsible for managing all communication activities from press engagement, public relations, social media, emails, website and marketing/advertising. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement a dynamic communications plan for Community Justice
  • Represent core values of Community Justice through creative messaging, collateral, and campaigns
  • Oversee awareness campaigns to educate communities on efforts to address gun violence
  • Oversee and approve all social media content (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube)
  • Grow digital reach through increased followers, impressions and online interactions
  • Stay on the pulse of media and public opinion trends to identify opportunities for engagement and growth
  • Track earned and paid media efforts and make recommendations that lead to measurable action with its audiences
  • Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of online collateral including, but not limited to social media content, newsletters,  and Community Justice’s website.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Executive Director as it relates to the development and execution of the communications strategy
  • Ensure visual communication and brand standards are met
  • Collaborate with other Community Justice’s team members on projects, as needed

Qualifications 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience managing a communications program for a non-profit, business or brand
  • Must be comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment
  • Experience managing and executing across different media platforms
  • Willing to execute day-to-day tasks and work independently
  • Capable leader, manager and coach for board, intern or volunteer talent
  • Good entrepreneurial work ethic and a desire to “get the job done”
