Overview

In the role of Communications Associate, you will help our clients communicate with stakeholders, ranging from employees to third-party advocates to allies, in a meaningful way on the issues that matter to our clients. As a communicator, critical thinker, as well as a communications and content strategist, you will help clients engage, educate, motivate, and build long-term relationships with their audiences.

You will have an understanding of how to use a wide array of communication vehicles (social media, email,websites, blogs, phones, direct mail, events, and in-person outreach) to help motivate people to participate in our campaigns and take action when needed. You’ll also have a passion for (and creative approach to) transforming  supporters who will send emails into champions who will do much more.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with VP and/or SVP of Communications on communications initiatives for large client campaigns and serve as the primary communications strategist on smaller client engagements
  • Develop strategic plans, messaging platforms, content matrices, and communications calendars, and oversee the implementation of those program elements
  • Participate in and often oversee the development of content for a wide range of communication tools
  • Use metrics optimize campaign communications on an ongoing basis
  • Collaborate across functions of the organization to ensure successful implementation of a campaign’s communications efforts on a day-to-day basis
Basic qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, public relations, political management, or related field*
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal/written communication, and project management skills
  • Ability to prioritize and support multiple projects simultaneously, maintain quality, meet deadlines, and effectively execute against messaging and audience targeting strategy
  • Experience using a variety of communication vehicles, including but not limited to:
    • web and social media
    • digital and traditional advertising
    • print
    • email
    • earned media
    • presentations
  • Expertise in and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willingness to adapt to the fast-paced, cyclical nature of public affairs work
* At the company’s discretion, experience working in public affairs and grassroots advocacy may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

Additional qualifications
  • 1-2 years relevant professional experience
  • Ability to manage multiple, often-conflicting deadlines; establish and negotiate timelines; and ensure timely delivery of high-quality work
  • Basic knowledge of desktop publishing applications, social networking tools, and online communications platforms beneficial
  • Knowledge of the political cycle, legislative calendar, and policy-making process
  • Experience using established policy sources/research repositories (e.g. CBO, GAO, OIG, and think tanks),as well as recognized mainstream and new media sources to support campaign messaging
This position is remote during the pandemic, but will be based in our downtown Washington, D.C., office near the McPherson Square Metro.
