Location: Boston/Marlborough area preferred, with opportunity for geographic flexibility/remote working and travel to Boston Scientific offices as needed.
About this role:
The Director and Communications Business Partner, MedSurg, is a valued strategic communications counselor to the Endoscopy and Urology and Pelvic Health management boards, while overseeing integrated, crucial external and internal communications in support of business objectives for these two growing business units. This includes providing focused communications leadership to deeply understand business opportunities and challenges, build cross functional relationships, drive global public relations for clinical and regulatory milestones, product and disease state awareness, manage issues related to the company’s reputation, and deliver communications supporting leadership and employee engagement. This is a highly visible role that works in close collaboration with leaders across businesses and Corporate functions, including Investor Relations, Marketing, Health Care Economics and Market Access, Human Resources, Legal, Regulatory, Clinical and others.
Your responsibilities includes:
•Lead overarching, global external and internal communications plans based on annual divisional operating plan objectives, while securing stakeholder alignment, program funding and functional resourcing. Measure ongoing progress and impact.
•Partner with regional communications leads to drive strategic alignment and execution on key communications initiatives.
•Ensure MedSurg leaders and businesses are supported with a deliberate and engaging communications multi-channel infrastructure that delivers impactful and timely content to respective audiences.
•Elevate and drive MedSurg reputation building content and stories to corporate channels that serve mutually beneficial business unit and company goals.
•Manage a team of five strategic communicators, with a strong focus on mentoring and professional development. Partner with agency/third-party professionals to develop and deliver communications programming.
•Anticipate and manage communications needs related to issues and crises that could impact the company’s reputation. Implement data driven response plans with organization and composure, working closely with cross functional corporate and regional colleagues.
•Act as media spokesperson for the company representing the MedSurg businesses, preparing statements and leadership for media interviews.
•Regularly provide business updates and correlating messaging to Investor Relations team for use with analysts and investors.
•Lead communications related to M&A and business development milestones as needed, with a keen focus on cross functional stakeholder alignment on messaging and execution plans.
•Demonstrate strong commitment to company values and furthering a diverse and inclusive team environment.
•Serve as a member of the Global Corporate Communications Leadership team, pursuing consistent, high quality communications support across business units through collaboration and best-practice sharing within the function.
Minimum Qualifications:
•Accomplished healthcare communications/public relations professional with 12-15+ years of communications experience within a corporate or agency environment, preferably both.
•Degree in communications, journalism or related field
•Experience with both external communications (i.e. media relations, product communications, medical meetings) and internal communications (i.e. employee engagement, executive communications).
•Experience navigating and managing complex issues or crisis and related communications strategy & execution.
•Demonstrated successful experience serving as communications advisor to executives.
•Exceptional writer and multi-channel storyteller. In-depth understanding of communicating with target audiences, as well as expertise in high-impact messaging to broad audiences.
•Ability to distill complex information into compelling and simple terms, with an understanding of public perception and issues pertaining to the industry and the regulated healthcare environment.
•Exceptional track record of leading people and teams. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to counsel and influence executive management, business stakeholders, and direct staff.
•Ability to manage agency partners and all aspects of the budget.
•Solid understanding and familiarity with new and emerging communications tools and technology.
•Aptitude in collaborating with compliance, legal and regulatory on challenges impacting the company's image and reputation.
•Strong executive presence and the ability to thoughtfully advise top executives, comfortably providing alternative points of view.
•Ability to work in fast-paced, matrixed environment while under pressure, with demonstrated success at managing competing deadlines with tight timeframes.
