Overview

Position Title:  Digital Marketing Associate

Summary:
The Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy (Johnson Center) at Grand Valley State University was established in 1992 with support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Our mission is to be a global leader in helping individuals and organizations understand, strengthen, and advance philanthropy, resulting in a smart, adaptive sector that helps create strong, inclusive communities.
We put research to work with and for professionals across the country and the world. Through professional education offerings; research, evaluation, and consulting services; and bold thinking to advance the field; we support a philanthropic ecosystem defined by effective philanthropy, strong nonprofits, and informed community change.
The Johnson Center is seeking a Digital Marketing Associate to join the Communications and Engagement team. This is a full-time position located on the Pew Campus at GVSU.
The Johnson Center offers a number of ready-to-purchase “products.” These products include:
  • Seats in our online professional development courses
  • Subscriptions to our quarterly journal on philanthropy, The Foundation Review
  • Digital badge credentials (in development)
  • Customized private dashboards within our interactive data platform, Community Insight (in development)
  • Customized professional development offerings.
As the Digital Marketing Associate, you will be responsible for working with colleagues across the Johnson Center to understand our products - what they are, how they work, why they are useful, and who would find them beneficial. For instance, this means learning about the courses we offer and understanding which types of nonprofit and/or foundation practitioners would find them valuable.
With support from your colleagues, your job will then be to translate that understanding into effective digital marketing campaigns that generate purchases. Successful campaigns will include strategic outreach and partnership development over time, understanding and targeting audiences across digital (and sometimes in-person) platforms, and, most importantly, taking the time and care to fully understand the Johnson Center’s work and why it is impactful for the nonprofit field.
Key to this position is maintaining the highest quality standards for written and graphic content - including avoiding typos, adhering to the Johnson Center’s editorial and brand style guide, and bringing an awareness of inclusive language and imagery to all of our work.
As the Digital Marketing Associate, you will report to and regularly meet one-on-one with the Director of Communications and Engagement, who will work closely with and support you. On-the-job training and professional development opportunities will be available.
Diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice commitment from the Johnson Center: We actively seek a diverse pool of applicants from, or who have worked closely with, historically underrepresented groups, including but not limited to people with disabilities, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, first or second-generation immigrants, and all socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills for communications and marketing tasks – experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a diverse team, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, including strong collaboration, interpersonal, and cultural responsiveness skills.
