UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMMC), a regional academic medical center affiliated with UMass Medical School, seeks a communications manager to develop and implement internal communications and content marketing strategies, plans and projects, advancing the work of the largest healthcare provider in Central and Western Massachusetts. The Communications Manager will help drive a compelling multi-year communications plan that engages and motivates all employees to achieve UMMMC’s patient care vision: to deliver an exceptional patient experience characterized by world-class quality outcomes, zero harm and patient-family centeredness.

Position Summary: Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer (CCO), the Communications Manager supports a results-oriented program that promotes cultural and business transformation through strategies and tactics that engage a diverse 24/7 workforce comprised of 1,400 physicians, 2,400 nurses, front-line clinical teams, staff and leadership. Developing an understanding of UMMMC’s brand voice, this high-profile contributor writes clear, compelling and engaging content for various audiences and channels, particularly internal stakeholders and front-line caregivers. Immersed in the medical center community, the Communications Manager partners with the CCO and marketing and communications colleagues to create best-practice communication modalities while leveraging strong writing skills and powerful storytelling that engages all caregivers in a mission-driven environment.

Primary Responsibilities: Establish and implement effective and engaging content strategies and tactics in support of UMMMC’s mission and goals; research, create, write and edit various forms of content (video scripts, intranet news stories, speeches, newsletters, etc.), maintaining the highest quality of information; manage quality, accuracy and alignment of projects; develop close working relationships with clinical entities and leaders to ensure consistent sharing of news, events and content opportunities – building and optimizing social media presence for Medical Center senior leaders while measuring campaign effectiveness, developing content and maintaining day-to-day social media conversations, and identifying external community and media engagement opportunities.

Requirements: BA/BS degree in related field; 3+ years’ experience writing and/or editing for multiple platforms and social media, and building social media profiles for leaders; working knowledge of various digital communications tools and industry standards; demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop effective and compelling content for various audiences and purposes, including written and video content; exceptional writing and visual design sense, able to tailor messaging to segmented audiences; self-directed, highly organized and able to set priorities with a focus on deliverables; solid understanding of social media landscape, platforms and measurement tools; a solutions-oriented problem solver and communicator with excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills; strong editorial background with outstanding writing/journalistic skills. Knowledge of HTML and/or experience with tools used to modify web pages and edit web imagery; experience in e-mail marketing/campaign management, pay-per-click (PPC) and online display advertising, and SEO. Prior experience within a health care environment preferred.
